Cambridge Water helps GSK reduce its water impact

Cambridge Water is helping global healthcare company GSK to reduce its water usage.

GSK, which has offices on Cambridge Science Park, is striving to be as water efficient as possible to help meet its global target of reducing its water impact chain by 20% by 2020.

Caron Pope, from GSK, said:

“In Cambridge we have already taken a number of practical steps to reduce the amount of water used in the office, including installing water efficient toilets and encouraging staff to use a  dishwasher once a day – rather than everyone washing up separately during lunch time.

“This, combined with efficiency challenges adopted by our laboratory technicians, means that we have been able to reduce our water consumption by 50 per cent since December 2012.”

In addition to the 50% saving, the company is also educating staff on ways they can save water, both at home and in the office.

Caroline Maddox, Head of Key Accounts for Cambridge Water, said:

“We were delighted to be asked to work in partnership with GSK to help educate employees on ways they can further help to save water. In addition to offering tips and advice to staff, we will also be giving away free water efficient products – which can help household customers save pounds on their annual water bill.

“Reducing the amount of hot water consumed also reduces the amount of energy required to heat the water up – helping customers to reduce their energy consumption too.”
