A major project is under way to protect Hartlepool’s water supplies into the future - Hartlepool Water is investing around £4 million this year to improve the water treatment works near Dalton Piercy.
Work includes the installation of a new ultra-violet (UV) disinfection system as well as a new pumping station, a reservoir by-pass and improvements to the instruments and electrical systems that are essential to delivering high quality water to the community.
The scheme is a close collaboration between Anglian Water’s – the owner of Hartlepool Water – alliance of contractors and Hartlepool Water’s operational staff. The collaborative project is already bringing innovative solutions to help save money and further improve how the site will work.
Kevin Ensell, Hartlepool Operations Manager, said:
“The project started in February, is making good progress and is on course to finish early in the New Year.
“This project is one of the biggest that Hartlepool Water has carried out in recent years and will help to make sure we’re able to continue to supply the highest quality drinking water to thousands of customers.”
“With this work we’ve moved away from the traditional way of building and tried to be more innovative by doing things like building the new pumping station off-site.”
The new state-of-the-art treatment works should be ready to supply homes across the town in the New Year.
