Veolia to put UK water companies up for sale

French utility giant Veolia is planning to put its three UK-regulated water companies, Veolia Water Central, Southeast and East, up for sale.

Government publishes new climate change report

The Government has published the results of a major new scientific assessment of climate change, highlighting the changes the world has already seen and the impacts it could face if global temperature changes are not limited.

Pennon Group, owners of South West Water, has this morning announced its latest financial results for the half year ended 30 September 2011.

The London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham Council has called an urgent public meeting to challenge what it describes as “Thames Water’s ‘ludicrous’ decision to dump the giant super sewer drive shaft on a residential street in Fulham.”

20% fall in profits at Atkins UK

Profits have fallen by 20% at Atkins, the UK’s largest engineering consultancy - operating profit was £24.6 million, down by 20.4% from £30.9 m in the six months ended September 2010. UK revenue also fell - down from £454.7 m for the same period last year to £420.4m.

Fall in revenues at Speedy Hire

Tool hire specialist Speedy Hire has reported a £2.3m loss for the six months to 30 September 2011 and falling revenue with the publication of its latest financial results this morning. Exceptional items moved Speedy into the red – it would otherwise have posted a pre-tax profit for the period of £2.8m.

Enterprise acquires Byzak

Enterprise, the UK's largest dedicated provider of maintenance and front-line services to the public sector and utility industry, has announced that it has acquired the multi-disciplinary contractor Byzak Limited.

Following strong growth in the first half of 2011, international construction group Vinci has reported that business remained steady in the third quarter, while business remains brisk in the UK.
