Northumbrian Water tenders joint £30m fuel card contract with Electricity North West

Northumbrian Water has gone out to tender in partnership with Electricity North West Ltd for a contract to supply fuel cards with an estimated total value of between £25 million to £30 million.

Both companies are participating in the tender via Selectusonline Ltd, a purchasing consortium consisting of 6 utility companies.

Geographical area covered by the contract for Northumbrian Water will be North East England, Essex and Suffolk. For Electricity North West , the area covers Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and parts of North Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire.

Northumbrian Water is acting as lead in the procurement process, which is being managed electronically, with all communication being managed through the Northumbrian Water e-Sourcing Spend Management web site.

The majority of vehicles run on standard diesel. Refuelling usually takes place across the Northumbrian Water operating areas of the North East of England, Essex and Suffolk and Electricity North West operating area of Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and parts of North Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire.

Northumbrian Water currently has 2374 cards for the commercial fleet which allow for all fuel types, oil and adblue and 24 cards for managers company cars which allow of all fuel types, oil, adblue and recovery. Electricity North West currently has 1297 cards for the commercial fleet which allow for all fuel types, oil and adblue.

The intention for both companies is to award a contract to the same supplier - however they have also reserved the right to award to separate suppliers if they represent best value for the company with regards to the location of filling stations from depots.

The framework agreement will run for 3 years with a further two 2 year extension options.
