Yorkshire Water tenders £37m flow-monitoring services contract

Yorkshire Water has gone out to tender with a contract for specialist monitoring for urban drainage, river flow and water quality framework worth an estimated £37 million.

Yorkshire Water is looking to execute specialist monitoring work on Yorkshire’s urban drainage and river networks for the purpose of the following outcomes:

  • risk based drainage area planning
  • water quality assessments
  • drainage and wastewater management plan
  • Options Modelling
  • operational scenario planning
  • Water Framework Directive flow investigations

Data collection work to support the model builds for solutions will cover a number of studies, including:

  • sewer depth and velocity monitoring (flow monitoring)
  • depth loggers
  • pump run time meters
  • rain gauges
  • associated planning and management of the flow surveys, working in close collaboration with the modelling consultants.

The model outputs will all be required to comply with specifications defined in the contract as well as adhering to a number of market standards, e.g. UDG code of practice for the hydraulic modelling of urban drainage systems, WaPUG integrated urban drainage modelling guide, WRC guide to short term flow surveys of sewer systems, and Yorkshire Water’s own Integrated Catchment Modelling approach.

The initial contract term is five years, with options to extend for three further years. The estimated value figure is based on the full contract term including renewals i.e. eight years.
