Southern Water has gone out to tender with a contract under two separate Lots for the provision of emergency alternative water supplies.
The supplies must be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year across Southern Water’s operational areas of Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, Surrey and the Isle of Wight.
The water company is looking for suppliers who can provide sufficient quantities of quality proven and quality assured product in 2 main scenarios where it will request alternative water:
- Emergency Response – Up to a minimum of 350,000 litres of water per day delivered anywhere within the Southern Water region within 4 hours.
- Planned Response – A delivery of water at a location, date and time of Southern Water’s designation when the request was placed.
The successful service provider must also have the ability to scale up the supply of portable water in times of larger incidents, to meet the water company’s needs of above the described minimum of 350 000 litres per day.
Under Lot 1 the supplier will required to provide and manage portable water that is appropriately packaged and strategically placed to ensure a response time within 4 hours of receiving notification from Southern Water for an emergency request.
For Lot 2, the supplier will need to have tankers available suitable for drinking water of a size suitable for filling tanks in any type of public road for the delivery of 480,000 litres of tankered water to any location specified by Southern Water within 4 hours of notification. The service level will re-set and be applicable daily.. If necessary, the must also be able to source sufficient quantities of other tankers, including food grade tankers, to meet the required response times.
Initial contracts will run for four years , with further options to extend up to a maximum of a further 4 years.
