The organisation responsible for Scrabster Harbour at Thurso in Scotland has gone out to tender with a contract for design and build civil engineering marine works to redevelop the St. Ola Pier worth an estimated £17 million.
Redevelopment is required to suit the proposed dredging of the inner and outer berths to accommodate cruise vessels and ongoing oil/gas supply vessels who need reliable accessible service berths with adequate loading provision for cranes and equipment.
The works required include:
- partial demolition of the existing pier
- reconstruction with marine piling
- dredging and spoil disposal (likely to sea disposal site and partially re-used in the works). The pier redevelopment is around 280 metres long x 32 metres wide.
A potable water supply and a fuel supply will also be re-routed from the existing Jubilee Pier in a dredged trench in the seabed to the Ice Pier and onwards around the harbour to the reconstructed St. Ola Pier.
Anticipated start date on the work is 2nd December 2019 with completion scheduled for March 2021.
Potential bidders for the work will need to provide relevant examples of marine design, construction and dredging works carried out in the past five years.
Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 8th March 2019 – click here to access the tender documentation.
