United Utilities seeks market input from supply chain on its energy strategy

United Utilities is looking to suppliers to provide market input on the development of Demand Side Flexibility Services as part of its energy strategy.

United Utilities uses around 800 GWh of electricity each year to provide essential water and wastewater services across the North West of England.

The water company is a large energy consumer and is looking to deliver value in demand side flexibility through National Grid’s balancing services and the capacity market, along with optimising value via the wholesale energy market.

United Utilities is looking to develop a close partnership with a supplier who can access the markets on its behalf, provide expert technical advice and identify new value opportunities, with a proven track record of delivering a reliable, transparent aggregated service.

Visualisation of performance and outage/exception monitoring is an essential requirement.

The water company said it is “open to utilising the best technology available to deliver value in the short and long term.”

United Utilities is keen to understand commercial models which share investment, benefits and risk in innovative ways and now wants to gather information from suppliers with the capability to provide the services.

The water company expects to go out to formal tender at the end of October. Click here to access the Prior Information Notice for details of how to contact the water company and the type of information it wants suppliers to provide.
