The Thanet Sewers scheme is a groundwater protection programme of construction and civil engineering works to rehabilitate the existing sewers over AMPs 5, 6 and 7.The sewer network covers the Thanet District of North East Kent, in and around the town of Margate.
The 220km sewer system is unusual in that there are an estimated 17 km of sewers laid within purpose dug, underground unsupported tunnels within the chalk strata.
Southern Water estimates that approximately 35 km to 55 km of the network will require rehabilitation works and flood storage/attenuation works.
The water company has now issued a Periodic Indicative Notice inviting interested suppliers to engage with Southern Water by completing a questionnaire prior to the call for competition.
Deadline for suppliers to submit the questionnaire to Southern Water is 5th February 2021 - estimated date of publication of the formal contract notice is 2nd July 2021.
