Edinburgh-based Business Stream has signed another multi-million-pound contract with Greggs and also signed a new water contract with the Scottish Football Association (SFA).

As part of the latest three-year deal with Greggs, Business Stream will provide the water and wastewater services to its nine UK manufacturing sites and over 1,400 shops. To support Greggs’ sustainability targets, a key focus for the retailer will be to work with the company to help identify further water efficiencies across its UK estate.

In February 2021, Greggs launched ‘The Greggs Pledge’, which announced ten ambitions that the company was committed to achieving by 2025. In addition to supporting stronger and healthy communities, the baker has also pledged to create a safer planet by going carbon neutral and reducing food waste.

As part of the contract, Greggs will also continue to benefit from consolidated billing and a dedicated account management service, which includes day-to-day support and 24/7 emergency assistance, when required.

Jo Dow, Chief Executive of Business Stream, said:

“We’re delighted to have signed a new contract with Greggs. As a responsible retailer we’re committed to taking steps to positively impact the environment and society as a whole – so it’s fantastic to be working with customers like Greggs who share this commitment. By working with Greggs to reduce their water use we can help to deliver financial savings and support their environmental targets too”.

Ally Stephenson, Head of Purchasing for Greggs, said:

“We’re very pleased to have signed a new contract with Business Stream. Our focus will be to continue to work together to identify and deliver efficiencies across our sites, helping to support our pledge to create a safer planet.”

The new three-year deal with the Scottish Football Association (SFA) will see Business Stream, one of the UK’s largest water retailers, undertake all integrated water management services at Hampden Park. This includes the installation of automatic meter readers (AMRs) to help monitor water use on-site and identify further water efficiencies to help support the organisation’s wider sustainability targets.

Douglas McLaren, Chief Operating Officer at Business Stream, said the SFA had set ambitious sustainability targets and the retailer waslooking forward to working with them to deliver water efficiencies across their national stadium.

Garry Blackadder, Estate Facilities Manager at the Scottish FA commented:

“We are delighted to be working with Business Stream again. Business Stream are renowned for their efficient monitoring of water supplies. Their prowess in identifying issues early in order to support businesses to achieve improved efficiencies in water usage is a tremendous benefit in our commitment to sustainability.”

Business Stream recently announced that it has secured a Gold rating by global sustainability assessors, EcoVadis, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed. In recent years the water retailer has introduced a number of initiatives to help reduce its impact on the environment, which helped the company to lower its carbon footprint by a quarter within a 12-month period (April 2021-April 2022). The company has since launched a second pledge to reduce its emissions by a further 20% by April 2023.

Business Stream announced last month that over the past year they have saved customers across the UK just under £32million through discounts and water and energy efficiency measures.
