NI Water has awarded a contract for Sludge Management Services worth an estimated £50 million.

Scope of the contract covers the transportation, disposal and discharge of liquid sludge – specifically, collection, transportation and discharge of liquid sludge from Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW)nto Sludge Disposal Centres (SDCs) which are primarily managed by NI Water. However, some are managed by Public Private Partnership (PPP) contractors which includes:
- collection, transportation and discharge of liquid sludge from WwTWs to SSRCs.
- collection and transportation of sludge
- Cake from SDCs for incineration by PPP contractor;
- discharging collected WwTW liquid sludge through the SLS;
- collection, transportation and discharge of liquid sludge between WTWs for de-watering;
- collection and dewatering of WTW liquid sludge and final disposal in the event of a plant failure;
- any other liquid sludge transport related services
Initial contract term is 4 years with up to 5 years of potential further extension options.
Maghera-based firm Road Safety Contracts Ltd has been awarded the contract, one of three companies in the bidding for the work.
