The procurement covers the disposal of food waste collected from residents within the Borough from April 2026 with the aim of recycling the waste to produce energy and nutrients contained within the food which can be recovered and used to generate renewable energy.
Dudley MBC specified that the anaerobic digestion site must be within a radius of 16 miles or up to 1 hour drive time from its Lister Road Depot where the food waste fleet will be based. The restriction is due to the lack of transfer station facilities for the storage and bulking of the food waste within the Borough.
Severn Trent Green Power Ltd has been awarded the contract, one of three companies who tendered for the work. The company is the largest producer of renewable energy from food waste in England and Wales, with 11 AD sites across England and Wales.
