Thames Water tenders £5.8 million AMP8 contract for electric metering services

Thames Water has gone out to tender with an AMP8 contract for metering services with an estimated value of £5.8 million (inc VAT)– the water company is seeking to appoint a partner to deliver comprehensive electricity metering services across its portfolio.

The appointed partner will be responsible for providing meter operator, data collection, and data aggregation services, ensuring the continued reliability and efficiency of Thames Water's electricity metering infrastructure.

The scope of this specification covers the provision of electricity metering services for 100% of Thames Water's electric metering portfolio.

The successful partner must be suitably accredited and demonstrate compliance with all relevant electricity metering standards. In addition to technical competence, the partner is expected to be proactive in contractual innovation and deliver high-quality performance throughout the contract period. The contract will encompass all aspects of meter operation, data collection, and data aggregation, with a focus on supporting Thames Water's operational and strategic objectives.

Current estimated start and end contract dates are 30 October 2026 to 31 October 2029. A furtther possible extension option to 31 October 2035 would see Thames extend twice for a further term of three years for a total maximum term of 9 years.

Estimated award decision date is 30 June 2026.

Deadline to submit enquiries about the tender is 10:00am on 2 January 2026 and the deadline for requests to participate is 10:00am on 9 January 2026.

Interested suppliers are asked to complete a Registration of Interest Form and provided their company name, company address (the address of what would be the contracting company entity) and contact details of two people from the organisation Thames Water can correspond with.

Once the supplier has completed and submitted the form Thames Water will send the nominated representatives an invitation to access its SAP Ariba Sourcing platform, together with an email with instructions for registering and using the system. Suppliers will also have the opportunity to request further representatives from the company to be granted access to this project once we sent you the initial invitation.

Suppliers who successfully pass the PSQ stage will be provided with system access for the next stage of the process.
