United Utilities has gone out to tender with an AMP8 contract for a Mechanical Services framework with a total estimated value of £57.6 million (inc VAT).

Scope of the framework covers Mechanical Services for the purposes of maintenance activities on assets and installations. The contract is being tendered in the following Lots:
Lot 1 Repairs and Machining (including Welding) - £28.8 million including VAT
Scope of Services to cover the mechanical repairs and machining (including welding) requirements on all sites throughout the United Utilities operational area. On and off-site work is encapsulated within the scope of this Lot.
Lot 2 Fabrication and Installation - £10.08 million including VAT
Scope of Services to cover the pre-inspection, manufacture and installation of various types of metal and plastic constructed equipment ranging from handrails, flooring, walkways, companion ways, vertical steel ladders, access covers throughout the United Utilities operational area.
Lot 3 Gearbox Repair - £4.32 million including VAT
Scope of Services to include all services predominantly associated with the repair of gearboxes that are used on company sites and throughout its operational area. The gearboxes will include geared motor type gearboxes, single and double reduction worm and wheel type gearboxes, single / double / triple reduction helical geared gearboxes and single / double / triple reduction bevel geared gearboxes.
Lot 4 Overhaul, Screens and Handling Equipment Repair - £12.24 million including VAT
Scope of Services covers the proactive and reactive servicing, refurbishment and repair of: • Water & Wastewater Inlet Screens • Network & CSO Screens • River Intake & Pumping Station Screens • All screenings handling equipment, with the exception of wash water pumping systems/skids/pump sets • Launders and screenings transfer equipment
Lot 5 Overhaul and Supply of Fabricated Parts - £2.16 million including VAT
Scope of services for the manufacture, off-site testing, and delivery of bespoke mechanical products. This Lot is intended to cover "non-standard" items that cannot be purchased "off-the-shelf."
Current estimated start and end contract dates are 7 September 2026 to 7 September 2028 with further possible extension options up to 7 September 2032.
The procurement will be delivered under the Competitive Flexible Procedure, based on a multi-stage process, comprised of the following stages:
- Stage 1: Condition of Participation
- Stage 2: Invitation to Negotiate
- Stage 3: Best and Final Offer
Deadline for submission of enquiries about the tender is 12:00am on 20 March 2026, and the tender submission deadline is 4:00pm 10 April 2026.
