The Mining Remediation Authority has awarded a £2 million contract (exc VAT) for legal services without going out to competition to Nottingham firm Browne Jacobson LLP without going out to to tender.

Scope of the contract covers the provision of legal services including;
Commercial matters
- procurement advice
- advice in relation to conditions of contract
- disputes arising out of contracts, contract management questions.
Litigation
- subsidence claims, lands tribunal cases, common law litigation, personal injury, judicial review challenges
Property matters
- sales of surplus property, acquisitions for mine water treatment schemes, leases for boreholes, release of restrictive covenants, clawback
Advice in relation to Freedom of Information requests, Environmental Information Regulations
External enquiries received from members of the public on title/property matters
Advice on property matters/commercial
Data Licensing
HR advice and other legal matters as required
The contract was awarded under the KCS Legal Services Framework framework which permits the award of call-off contracts by direct award without reopening competition.
