Ofwat consults on Wholesale Retail Code

Water industry regulator Ofwat has launched a new consultation on the Wholesale Retail Code (WRC) which plays a key role in the regulatory framework for the new business retail market which opens next year.


Almost half of firms (44%) believe the UK’s infrastructure has improved over the past five years, but only a quarter (27%) think it will pick up in the next five years, and two thirds (64%) suspect it will hamper the country’s international competitiveness in the coming decades, according to the 2016 CBI/AECOM Infrastructure Survey.

The National Infrastructure Commission has begun the next phase of the UK’s first ever National Infrastructure Assessment (NIA) - the call for evidence includes a  range of questions on water and wastewater, (drainage and sewerage) and flood risk management.

MPs on the House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee are calling for an overhaul of flood management in England to tackle the rising risk to communities from climate change.

Urban Resilience RisksA a new report by the World Bank and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) is warning that without significant investment to improve the resilience of cities around the world, climate change may push up to 77 million more urban residents into poverty by 2030.

Ofwat has today published a consultation on draft determinations for three water companies, based on their performance against commitments in their business plans for 2015-16 - a £18.8m reward for Severn Trent and £0.5m reward for Anglian, and a £1.7m penalty for South West Water.
