The Technology Strategy Board is to host a free Innovations in Energy & Sustainability event on 14 June 2012.

 

A project by the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) to identify ways of providing a cost effective deployment of tidal stream technologies at commercial scale in UK waters, has been announced at All-Energy by DECC Minister Charles Hendry.

 

The Government has published its responses to an Energy & Climate Change (ECC) Committee report of February 2012, revealing that marine energy is relatively low on its agenda in the development of low-carbon solutions.

 

Chairman of the Environment Agency Lord Chris Smith has given his backing to expansion in the UK of fracking - the controversial process to extract natural gas from shale rock using massive amounts of water.

The Scottish Government has published a map highlighting recent investment announcements in offshore wind, wave and tidal power.

A new poll from Friends of the Earth reveals 85 per cent of British public would like to see the Government increasing the use of clean British energy and reducing the use of overseas gas, with marine energy seen as most desired renewable energy source.

 

The European Commission (EC) has identified a green economy as a key opportunity for a ‘job-rich’ recovery in Europe in proposals announced yesterday (18 April), with future water challenges helping job creation.

 

Leading Non-Governmental Organisations have responded positively to the report published yesterday (18 April) calling for more Government openness on the impact that UK consumption is having on the climate.

Plans have been unveiled by the National Trust for a hydroelectric power scheme in Snowdonia to provide energy to its Welsh properties.

The Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) has today launched its eagerly awaited £20 million Marine Energy Array Demonstrator scheme (MEAD).
