Renewables bring £2.5bn boost to UK economy

UK Energy Secretary Chris Huhne today revealed more evidence of the economic benefits of renewable energy as he reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to meeting EU renewable energy targets.

Future of Cornish wave hub secured

The offshore marine energy project in Cornwall, which allows developers to test new wave energy technology, will be taken on by the Government to secure its future as a vital part of the UK's green energy sources.

The European Union’s One Planet Economy Network EU project (OPEN:EU) has launched a unique new tool for mapping ecological carbon and water footprint data across all the 27 EU member states.

Leading environmental organisation WWF has called for the Government to fully the UK carbon budgets.

The European Environment Agency has published a report predicting huge renewable energy growth during the coming decade, if the EU countries meet their projections.

The Environment Agency has this morning published the first CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme Performance League Table which ranks thousands of UK businesses according to how they manage their energy use. The water companies did well, with six in the top one hundred.

Sewage gas for Grid projects hit problem

Innovative projects by two UK water companies to pump gas from sewage into the National Grid have both hit problems.

Proposals to support renewable electricity and intended to bring forward “a surge of investment” in the UK’s energy infrastructure were published by the Government today.

Carbon Trust Advisory analysis has found that businesses which invest in renewable energy could make average returns of 11-12%, with the potential for returns in excess of 20%.
