Shale gas planning applications will be fast-tracked through a new, dedicated planning process, under new measures announced today by the Government which include plans for a communities sovereign wealth fund.

 

In the run up to the Paris climate change talks in December, the European Commission has set out major new proposals to revise the EU Emissions Trading System – currently the largest carbon market in the world.

In a move which the Government said would save £3.9 billion over the lifetime of this Parliament, Chancellor George Osborne yesterday removed the current exemption for electricity from renewable sources from the climate change levy.  

The National Trust is to invest £30 million investment in renewable energy to heat and power its properties- the organisation’s biggest-ever investment in renewables.

The Canal and River Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for an abstraction licence in Yorkshire for a new hydropower generation scheme.

A peak in global energy-related emissions could be achieved as early as 2020 and at no net economic cost, the International Energy Agency said in its new World Energy Outlook Special Report on Energy and Climate Change published today.

The potential for a robust global climate deal at the Paris Climate Summit in December 2015 is driving an increased emphasis on renewables and clean tech in the next five years according to energy companies surveyed in PwC's new global power and utilities survey.

MRE Roadmap Cornwall IofSThe Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership (C&IoS LEP), Cornwall Council and the Council of the Isles of Scilly have jointly launched their Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) Roadmap.

The City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council is planning to develop a hydro-electric power scheme.

The International Energy Agency is calling for a concerted push for clean-energy innovation as the only way the world can meet its climate goals and for public spending on low-carbon technology R&D to be tripled.
