Euroby’s centrifuge installation doubles capacity, saves energy and reduces carbon

Euroby Ltd, one of the UK’s leading sludge dewatering companies and the UK supplier for Flottweg AG’s range of centrifuges, has completed the installation of a 3-centrifuge alum sludge dewatering system at South East Water’s Bray Water Treatment Works.

eurobyvancanEuroby’s centrifuge installation at the works has doubled capacity, saved energy and reduced carbon – at lower capital costs.

The upgrading of the water main at Bray required an increase in plant capacity of almost 100%. The existing Hysep decanter centrifuges were approaching the end of their life and lacked the capacity and performance to cope with the upgraded plant’s projected loadings.

Euroby’s contract, which commenced in October 2009, involved the use of a wide range of Euroby’s products and capabilities. It was essential during the installation period that the Plant was able to function as normally as possible. To facilitate this, Euroby deployed one of its mobile centrifuges from its large fleet, thereby enabling sludge to be dewatered during the installation of the replacement centrifuges.

The Bray installation

The full scope of the work involved the removal and disposal of the existing decanters and ancillaries, design and supply of the support and access steelwork and installation of the 3 new Flottweg C3E decanter centrifuges. The existing MCC’s were refurbished and new cabling installed as part of Euroby’s contract.

The C3E centrifuges are part of Flottweg AG’s new range of high efficiency decanters designed to give maximum performance with minimum cost. Each centrifuge is capable of processing in excess of  15m3/hr alum sludge with a dry solids content of 4% at Bray WTW.

The innovative design of the centrifuge bowl and scroll promotes efficient acceleration of the product in the feed zone and – in tandem with Flottweg’s patented ‘Simp–Drive’ System - allows higher hydraulic loadings with a smaller footprint. This effective size reduction also brings lower capital costs and reported energy savings of up to 30% compared with “conventional” designs.

In addition, existing customers confirm that the current configuration of the new C-Series maximizes both reliability and availability.

Bray is just one of Euroby’s current projects – its range of products and services extend to all aspects of current dewatering technologies and ancillaries including sales, hire, spares service and refurbishment along with turnkey installations.
