Deadline closes today to comment on phase 1 of CMA inquiry into Anglian/Northumbrian retail market jv

Today is the deadline to comment on the first phase of the Competition and Markets Authority investigation into the proposed non-household retail water and sewerage services joint venture between Anglian Water Group Ltd and Northumbrian Water Group Ltd.

The companies, who entered the new retail market in April as separate entities, announced back in March that they were planning to launch a combined new company, Wave, subject to clearance of the deal by the CMA.

The CMA launched its phase 1 investigation following the European Commission’s decision to refer the case to the United Kingdom under Article 4(4) of the EC Merger Regulation.

The Authority is now considering whether the deal would create a merger situation under the provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and, if so, whether it could be expected to result in a “substantial lessening of competition” within any UK market or markets for goods or services.

Today is the deadline to comment on the proposal – the CMA will then make its phase 1 decision by 8th August 2017.
