Ofwat has published its Annual Performance report for 2018/19 on monitoring the financial resilience of the water companies.
Introducing the report, Ofwat said the report is intended first and foremost to “enhance the visibility and accessibility of each company’s financial performance” and the financial structures in the sector by sharing key metrics, including:
- Credit ratings
- Long term viability statements
- Gearing
- Dividends
- Company borrowings
- Wholesale revenue
- Retail revenue
- Household retail profit margins
- Non-household retail profit margins
The water sector regulator said that this enables it and other stakeholders , including investors and potential investors, ratings agencies, analysts, government and customers, to monitor the businesses it regulates and to challenge the sector in its identification and management of risk.
The report does not draw any conclusions on the financial performance or resilience of any individual companies.
Ofwat said it continues to engage with companies directly where:
- it has concerns about their financial or operational performance
- where it sees indicators of a risk to their financial resilience.
