Environment Agency Wales has been advising local businesses at the Tir Llwyd Industrial Estate how to avoid polluting the River Gele.
The river runs through the heart of the Abergele estate, increasing the risk of pollution as drains on the estate run directly into to the river.
Potential sources of pollution have been identified as have key areas where businesses could improve their working practices. Simple things like managing their waste better and storing chemicals and fuels in a different way will make a difference.
The River Gele is an important part of the local community and environment and this work aims to help businesses play their part in improving it. Dafydd Roberts from Environment Agency Wales said:
“We believe that prevention is the best cure and working with business we hope to stop pollution at source. By spending time with the businesses and understanding their processes and daily routines, our officers can spot any issues before they become a problem.”
