Ofwat has published new guidelines setting out how water companies should operate the abstraction incentive mechanism (AIM) which is due to start in reputational form from 1 April 2016.

The Committee on Climate Change (CCC), the independent body established under the Climate Change Act to advise the UK government on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, is warning the government of the urgency for water abstraction reform.

Water companies have rejected criticism made by three environmental NGOs during the recent consultation which ended on 14th January by industry regulator Ofwat on the proposed Abstraction Incentive Mechanism.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has launched a new consultation on the abstraction incentive mechanism (AIM).

Ofwat has received the recommendations of the Abstraction Incentive Mechanism (AIM) taskforce established to consider how water companies can be incentivised to reduce their abstractions from environmentally sensitive water sources when river flows are low.

Ofwat has announced details of the next steps for the abstraction incentive mechanism (AIM) taskforce established earlier this month  - the water industry regulator is encouraging more organisations and other water companies to become members.
