Severn Trent Services - Apliclor, a leading supplier of drinking and wastewater treatment solutions in Spain, has successfully significantly expanded the scope and geographic range of its services over the past 18 months.

The company now generates more than 35 percent of its revenue supplying water and wastewater solutions outside Spain.. Most of the projects originate from Spanish construction companies which, to weather the region’s economic slowdown, have sought opportunities in foreign markets.

Barcelona-based P.S Apliclor, S.A was acquired by Severn Trent Services to expand the Spanish and southern European market for TETRA® wastewater filters and to develop relationships with large Spanish consultants and contractors operating worldwide. Prior to acquisition, the company’s operations were focused exclusively on Spain, the Balearics and the Canary Islands.

General manager of Severn Trent Services – Apliclor, Rick Bacon, commented:

“Spanish construction companies are involved in water and wastewater projects throughout the world, not just in Spain. North Africa, the Near East, Australia and South America, in particular, represent key areas of business opportunity. Our global experience and our ability to integrate our full line of water and wastewater treatment solutions is a natural pairing with Spanish construction companies expanding business outside the region.”

North Africa, in particular, is an area in which Severn Trent Services - Apliclor is rapidly growing its business. As a result of the region’s water shortage of the past few years, demand for water and wastewater treatment products and services is expected to grow significantly. Severn Trent Services - Apliclor currently operates in Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt.

In Algeria, for example, the company, in partnership with ACCIONA AGUA, designed, constructed and installed the TETRA LP Block dual parallel underdrains for pre-treatment at the Fouka SWRO desalination plant, which is providing the country with greater water resources. The construction of a number of desalination and water reuse plants in the North Africa region also has been planned.
