The next few years could see a flood of water-related technological innovation coming out of Europe, according to EIP Water – the European Innovation Partnership established under the European Union's Innovation Union initiative.

The House of Lords last night succeeded in making an amendment to the Housing and Planning Bill onSustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) following its rejection in the House of Commons on Tuesday 3rd May.

The water companies are urging MPs to include a crucial amendment on added to the  Housing and Planning Bill in the House of Lords which will help ensure essential flood prevention measures are put in place at new housing developments.

Ofwat has said it is important that the same regulatory framework in the new retail market should apply to all appointed companies, including small companies, "otherwise the market arrangements will not work effectively for customers and other market participants."

Graf UK installer with EcoBloc systemIn a bid to eliminate flood risk and to provide an effective, controlled rainwater drainage solution, water management specialist Graf UK has installed a 620m3 EcoBloc Flex stormwater tank at a new 13-mile bypass in Morpeth, Northumberland.

Ofwat has given the go-ahead to United Utilities to provide working capital through a series of loans of up to £100 million for a period of 5 years to its non-household retail activities joint venture with Severn Trent Water.
