US- headquartered firm CGI has today announced the successful launch of the central market operating system (CMOS) that underpins the world’s largest competitive water market.
The launch marks the delivery of the systems at the heart of one of the largest and most complicated industry-wide change programmes ever undertaken by the water sector in England.
Through CGI’s delivery of the core operating system, Market Operator Services Limited (MOSL) has become the operator of the new competitive market, less than two years after it assumed responsibility for preparing the market for launch.
Developed by CGI, with modules provided by its partner Bridgeall, CMOS is at the heart of the new market and enables customers to switch between suppliers. It also acts as a central market settlement system, calculating usage charges between wholesalers and retailers, enabling retailers to charge customers and wholesalers to recover their regulatory income in a market that generates revenues of £2.4 billion per annum.
“Since confirming our contract with MOSL two years ago, we have worked hard to deliver its new core operating system by leveraging our experience in developing other central market systems,” said Tara McGeehan, Senior Vice-President, UK Energy, Utilities and Telecoms, CGI. “I’m pleased to announce its successful launch. We are proud to support the largest competitive water market in the world, and anticipate customers throughout the UK will see many benefits from the new system, including lower costs and improved bill management.”
“Delivering a successful programme of this scale and complexity on time and on budget has required a huge team effort across the entire industry,” added Ben Jeffs, Chief Executive, MOSL. “We very much hope that spirit of cooperation will continue so that customers’ experiences in the new market are as positive as possible.”
Founded in 1976, CGI Group Inc. is the fifth largest independent information technology and business process services firm in the world.
