Royal HaskoningDHV has announced that following the successful partnership with Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc. in the United States last year, the company is now extending the licence for the Nereda® granular biomass wastewater treatment to include Canada.
Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc. is now the exclusive provider of Nereda technology in the United States and Canada, and is accelerating its implementation of aerobic granular sludge technology in North America.
Nereda represents an evolution in activated sludge treatment replicating the same effluent quality as a well-designed enhanced BNR (Biological Nutrient Removal) facility but without the use of chemicals by using the patented aerobic granular sludge technology.
The dramatically reduced footprint and low energy requirement of the Nereda process provides a competitive alternative for high performance plants. The introduction of more stringent water quality requirements strengthens the market need for Nereda even further.
Aqua-Aerobic Systems Vice President - Process Group, James Horton commented:
“In the last six months plus we have found that the Nereda technology satisfies all of the requirements we look for in a next generation biological process; enhanced biological nutrient removal, lower operational and capital costs, and smaller footprint. This is the game changer the industry has been waiting for and we are excited to be able to offer it into Canada too.”
Waste n Watertech will represent the Nereda product in western Canada. The company’s VP-Engineering Sales, Dominic Janssen added:
“Given the progressive tightening of BNR effluent requirements here in Canada, Waste 'n Watertech is constantly on the lookout for innovative biological processes that tackle these challenges more efficiently.”
“We identified the Nereda process back in 2015 as exactly what we were looking for, and are extremely happy to now be the exclusive gateway of this technology in our territory. The fact that Aqua-Aerobic Systems is the company to bring this product to the North American market only magnifies our belief in this technology's potential".
