A new report from the Smart Water Networks Forum is highlighting customer service as the number one business driver for the sector, with leakage and OPEX effectiveness the primary concerns and opportunities for utilities worldwide.
The SWAN Forum has just published the findings of its latest Global Utility Survey, providing a authoritative snapshot of current water utility networks, including their challenges, opportunities and areas of focus.
The online survey developed by SWAN was completed by 33 utilities from 15 countries drawn from Europe, South America, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, the U.S. and South Africa.
The survey offers some invaluable insights for companies who want to identify areas of focus for new business opportunities. It also makes the key point that the key areas for network improvement match up closely with the main challenges identified by the utilities.
Other areas covered include infrastructure age, a breakdown of water distribution operating expenses by topic and network sectorisation.
Smart water technologies are key to addressing both the drivers and challenges faced by utilities today – they play a significant role in improving customer service, reducing leakage and energy costs, increasing operational efficiency, and allow utilities to take a proactive approach to aging infrastructure and other network challenges.
The Forum is now about to launch two upcoming initiatives to further expand the use of smart water technologies by the utilities. The SWAN SMART SCORE , is a free tool for utilities to gauge the relative ‘intelligence’ of their networks and better understand the extent to which they are taking advantage of existing technologies. The SWAN Interactive Architecture Tool (available to SWAN members only) will provide the utilities with a comprehensive picture of existing technologies, case studies, architectural maps and benefit analyses.
