Met Office: air pollution increases river flows

A new study published in Nature Geoscience shows that air pollution has had a significant impact on the amount of water flowing through many rivers in the northern hemisphere.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, with input from other research councils, is running a a five-day Sandpit event in the water energy food nexus and has opened a  call for participants.

New application to impound water for hydro scheme

The Environment Agency has received an application for two licences to impound water from the Itchen in connection with a new hydropower scheme.

The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee has given the UK Government a ‘red card’ for its efforts to reduce health-damaging air pollution, protect biodiversity and prevent flooding in a scorecard assessment of its green policies during this Parliament.

Customer complaints to water companies have plunged for the sixth successive year – but the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) is warning that the tide could quickly turn against the industry if it fails to deliver affordable bills.
