Lord Chris Smith, Chairman of the Environment Agency, told delegates at CIWEM’s Annual Conference this week that extreme weather is “the number one challenge facing the nation.”

The first international Water Stewardship Standard 1.0, a global framework to promote sustainable freshwater use, has been released by the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS), supported by leading businesses and other organizations including the European Water Partnership.

A 10-month partnership project that has improved the quality of bathing water at Southend ahead of the summer season has been hailed a success by the Environment Agency.

The World Water Council (WWC) and World Energy Council (WEC) have announced that they have joined forces to bring the issue of the water-energy nexus to the fore in the run up to the 7th World Water Forum, to be staged in Daegu, Korea from 12 to 17 April 2015.

The Department for International Development is launching a major research project into how water security for poor people in developing countries can be improved.

Leading environmental organisation WWF has unveiled its updated Water Risk Filter - a powerful new online tool which allows users to map production facilities, supply chains and commodities.

New analysis using the World Resources Institute’s water risk tool has identified eighteen of the world’s most water-stressed rivers.
