A new report from the UK’s leading water organisation  has flagged up tension between increasing environmental water quality standards that provide “questionable benefit to customers” and the energy – and carbon emissions – that water companies must use in order to meet them.

The UK Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has launched the 'Every Last Drop' campaign aimed at raising awareness amongst food and drink companies about efficient and sustainable water use throughout the food supply chain.

Drought to be 'commonplace' by 2050s

A new report from the Environment Agency is warning that water shortages will be common if the current system is not overhauled. Droughts like the one we are experiencing this year could become commonplace in the future, with demand for water outstripping supply.

EU plans €80 billion research programme

The EU is planning an  €80 billion research programme which sharpens focus on converting research results into products and services.

Water companies and the public need to plan now for a summer drought to minimise the impacts of a potentially dry winter, Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman said today.

Warm global temperatures continue in 2011

This year is set to be the 11th warmest in a record spanning more than 150 years, according to climate scientists from the Met Office and the University of East Anglia.
