The Environment Agency and Waterwise have announced the winners of the 2014 UK Water Efficiency Awards - the most high profile awards scheme in the UK to recognise the water efficiency achievements of the public, private and third sector organisations who promote water efficiency.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Water Council (WWC) have agreed to intensify their collaboration in a bid to strengthen global water and food security.

A record number of delegates attended  the Institute of Water’s Annual Conference last week, which saw industry leaders and experts present their views on ‘delivering great service’.

Cuadrilla Bowland Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for three relevant permits for their Preston New Road exploratory shale gas site at Little Plumpton, Lancashire.

The water companies in England and Wales will shortly set up an Alternative Dispute Resolution initiative up to a maximum of £10,000 for disputes involving household consumers and £25,000 for disputes involving non-household consumers.

The Scottish Environmental Publication Agency has published a new report on the state of the environment in Scotland - the first major update since it was last published in 2011.

The Environment Agency has updated its groundwater vulnerability maps to reflect improvements in data mapping and understanding of the factors affecting vulnerability.

The European Commission has reported that the water at Europe’s beaches, rivers and lakes was generally of high quality in 2013, with more than 95 % of these sites meeting minimum requirements. Coastal performed slightly better than inland bathing waters, the data shows.

Thirty five member countries of the United Nations have now officially agreed to common guidelines for sharing and managing freshwater resources that cross international borders.
