WRc has won the the United Kingdom Society for Trenchless Technology Product Innovation Award 2015 for its Sahara Conductivity Survey Tool.
WRc has developed a sensor that can detect changes in electrical condition through a pipe wall which is able to accurately locate leaks or metallic fittings. The tool improves pipeline operators’ understanding of the condition of their non-metallic pipelines and can hugely improve the efficiency of pipe replacement by pinpointing metal fittings before using pipe bursting to re-lay them – reducing risk and disruption. The tool is available for the surveying of live pipelines through WRc’s Assess & Address pipeline inspection and condition assessment business.
Dale Harley, Commercial Manager of Assess & Address at WRc commented:
“WRc is a centre of excellence for innovation and we are thrilled to have won this prestigious award which recognises the outstanding contributions made by organisations and individuals to the promotion, use and development of Trenchless Technology.”
WRc leads the development and application of innovative technologies for inspection, monitoring and management of pipeline infrastructure. WRc is working closely with utilities through its pipeline management approach to accurately assess the current condition of their underground assets and develop cost-effective solutions to ensure serviceability is maintained with minimum or no interruption to customers.
