Severn Trent Water continues work on £multi-million AMP5 schemes

Severn Trent Severn Trent is continuing to work on a number of £multi-million AMP5 schemes, including restarting work on its £5m programme of work to instal new, larger, sewers as part of its efforts to help prevent sewer flooding in Cheltenham.

Since June last year then the water company laid over a kilometre of new sewer pipes in the town. Severn Trent had to stop work a few months ago in one area of the town after the ground failed to hold the pipes being installed. The water company had to review its options and re-design a solution so that the sewers could be successfully installed.

As part of the scheme Severn Trent has diverted existing water pipes and will now start laying new, larger sewer pipes to help prevent flooding. Contractor NMC Nomenca will be carrying out the work.

On Sunday Severn Trent are also due to complete the first stage of a separate £15 million project which started in September 2014 to upgrade both the water and sewer pipes in Stafford. The scheme includes a spend  of £10 million to install more than 20 kilometres of new water pipes, together with a £5 million investment  to upgrade two major sewage pumping stations and to install five kilometres of new sewers in and around the town.

In February Severn Trent will complete a £3million investment to upgrade the sewer network in Stirchley with a kilometre of new, bigger sewers and two large underground storage tanks. The new sewers will be installed by the firm’s contract partner Amey.
