Southern Water has launched water-saving trials in Kentwhich will see least 500 residents across the Isle of Sheppey benefit from free water-saving products on taps, toilets and showers over the next six weeks.
Southern Water, energy efficiency partner Cenergist and housing association, AmicusHorizon, have launched the water-saving trials in the Isle of Sheppey with the aim of helping residents reduce their water use.
Funded by Southern Water, Cenergist engineers will visit at least 500 AmicusHorizon residents across the Isle of Sheppey over the next six weeks. During an appointment, the engineer will check water consumption in kitchens and bathrooms and, if beneficial, will fit free water-saving products on taps, toilets and showers.
Southern Water’s head of water efficiency, Ben Earl said:
“This project is all about Southern Water being proactive and making it easier for those with a meter to save water and money. A home visit could cut water use by up 20 per cent, in some cases. We’ll also be able to see if the customers are eligible for any of our support tariffs which could mean bill discounts that customers could be entitled to."
“Of course, we want to help all our customers and this particularly targeted scheme is in addition to the visits we are providing across the region to help our customers. If the scheme is a success, it will change the way we work with our communities in the future.”
AmicusHorizon’s sustainability manager, Andrew Piper, said:
“AmicusHorizon is committed to helping its residents to reduce energy and water costs. Our partnership with Southern Water and Cenergist will lead to greater awareness of how to reduce water use, especially where water meters are fitted. We hope that if the 500 home pilot project is successful, many more of our residents who are Southern Water customers will benefit from the scheme.”
