Northumbrian Water Group has scooped a top national award in the Business in the Community′s Responsible Business Awards for its innovative approach to reducing flood risk.
The water company won the Fujitsu Digital Innovation Award in recognition for its Asset Performance Analytics project which utilises digital data tools to deliver intelligence-driven improvements to sewer pump performance, reducing flooding incidents and saving energy and money.
The award-winning initiative was introduced after more than 3,000 of the water company′s customers experienced disruption from flooding in 2016.
Nigel Watson, Northumbrian Water Group′s Information Services Director, said:
"We know that flooding is one of the most devastating things that our customers can experience.
"Thanks to this innovative use of data, we′re able to identify the early warning signs of problems and take a proactive approach to reduce the risk of flooding in future, and we′re delighted for our achievements to be recognised with this award.
"As a responsible business, we′re always looking for new technology and new ideas to help us deliver other societal and environmental improvements, and we′re really excited to continue celebrating innovation at our Innovation Festival next week."
The Northumbrian Water Group Innovation Festival takes place at Newcastle Racecourse between Monday July 9 to July 13, bringing together some of the worlds′ largest businesses.
