SES Water sets out coronavirus precautionary measures for customers and employees

SES Water has issued a statement setting out the precautionary measures it is putting in place to ensure customers are protected from the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The company said it is continuously monitoring the Government’s updates and guidance regarding COVID-19 and are also taking precautionary steps to protect the health of its workforce, including telling employees about the preventative measures they need to take as guided by NHS and Government advice.

SES Water is also continuously reviewing its business continuity plans that include the possibility of dealing with a pandemic. “We will continue to update these plans as necessary as we learn more about the COVID-19 situation, to meet our service obligations to our customers, communities and the environment,” the company said.

The water company is screening visitors and employees before they come into its offices on their latest travel and health status to ensure they are following Government advice

SES Water is also continuing to work closely with critical suppliers to ensure they are taking appropriate action and can continue to provide goods and services.

In addition, the statement provides reassurance for concerned customers that drinking water is safe and that coronavirus (COVID-19) is known to spread from person to person through close contact, similar to how the flu is transmitted. SES Water says:

“As it is a respiratory illness, it is not spread through tap water. The virus would be eliminated very effectively by drinking water treatment, especially the primary disinfection process (chlorination).”

The company is advising customers where a member of the household has COVID-19 or cold or flu-like symptoms and have a scheduled appointment with someone due to visit from SES Water that it may call ahead of the visit to check whether anyone in the household has recently travelled to or been in close contact with someone who has travelled to any of the high-risk areas. Based on whether this is a category 1 or 2 according to the Government’s advice, it may look to rebook the appointment.
