United Utilities turned the skies above Trafford in Manchester blue yesterday evening, as part of the nation’s appreciation for key workers in the fight against Covid-19.
United Utilities lit up the giant gas holders at Davyhulme wastewater treatment works bright blue with messages of support as the UK joined in with another round of applause for the NHS
The 90-foot tall inflatable gas bags are usually a symbol of green energy at the site.
Tom Lissett, Bioresource and Energy Services Director at United Utilities explained:
“As well as keeping the taps flowing and the toilets flushing, here at United Utilities we wanted to show our support for all the other key workers across the region, especially our fantastic NHS. What better way than to brighten up the darkness at one of the area’s biggest landmarks!
“These giant spheres are where we store the gas produced on site ready to convert into renewable energy. It’s usually the greenest part of the plant but we plan to turn it NHS-blue over the next three weeks. We hope people in the local area Stay Home, Save Lives, and enjoy the blue glow across their skyline.”
The giant gas holders at Davyhulme wastewater treatment works can be seen from the M60 Barton Bridge. Usually a symbol of ‘green’ energy at the site but over the next three weeks United Utilities will turn them blue for the NHS.
