United Utilities to host drop-in event on investment in Barrow

United Utilities is set to make a multi million pound investment as part of its plans to improve water quality in Walney Island, Morecambe Bay and the Irish Sea around Barrow.

The North West’s water company will be transforming the water and wastewater infrastructure across the North West with the largest investment in a century.

Over the next five years this will mean investment at 21 storm overflows in nine locations across Barrow.

United Utilities said the projects will mean that the number of times that the storm overflows operate in the area reduces to less than 10 per year on average.

The projects in Barrow will include building more storage for rainwater, so that it can be treated before being returned to the environment and also removing surface water from the combined sewer system to create additional capacity in the sewer network.

Residents are being encouraged to find out more at a drop-in event being held in the town on 29 January, between 2pm and 7pm at the Ante Room at the Forum.
