Uisce Éireann has completed the first phase of works to rationalise Adare’s water supply - the project aims to improve the security and resilience of the water supply for homes and businesses across Adare.
Following the successful completion of the first phase, the second phase of works will begin on 08 September 2025.
The first phase of works involved the construction of two kilometres of water main from the Adare reservoir along the N21 and the Adare to Ballingarry regional road, R519.
Speaking about the project, Uisce Éireann’s Leakage Reduction Programme Manager, Brian McCarthy said the company extendedits thanks for the support and patience of the local community in Adare while the first phase of works were underway.
Laura Heneghan, Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, commented:
“This project represents a significant investment in strengthening Adare’s water supply and will not only improve the water supply for over 2,300 customers in the area, but it will also facilitate future growth and development, including the delivery of new housing.”
The upgrade will also address operational issues for the Adare Water Treatment Plant which is on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Remedial Action List (RAL).
The second phase of works will involve the construction of the remaining 7.1 kilometres of water main, which will connect the Adare Network to the Limerick City and Environs Supply Zone.
The next phase of works will be delivered by Ward and Burke on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by Q3 2026.
