Anglian Water invests £2m to upgrade water pipes in Whittlebury and Lillingstone Lovell

Anglian Water is due to begin upgrades between Whittlebury and Lillingstone Lovell which will see the replacement of 3.1 kilometres of water pipes to ensure that water supplies are safe and reliable for decades to come.

ANGLIAN WATER LOVE EVERY DROP VAN SIGNAGE

The scheme – totalling £2 million – will begin on 5 January 2026 and is expected to be completed in late February 2026. To install the new pipe, the water company will need to open up sections along the A143.

To do the work safely, Anglian Water will be closing the A143 for the duration of the work to enable teams to complete the work safely.and to ensure the safety of road users To keep the closure as short as possible, teams will be on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, getting their work done as quickly as it is safe to do so.

Once the pipes are installed, they will need to be connected to the existing water network. To complete this, there may also be some interruptions to customers' supplies for a short period.

Ashton Carradine, Customer Experience Specialist for the project said:

“We operate in the driest region of the country, but the East of England is also one of the fastest growing. As part of our Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP), this project will help make sure we can keep taps running and toilets flushing for residents in and around Whittlebury and Lillingstone Lovell for years to come.”

The work, which follows what may be the UK’s driest summer since records began, is being completed by Anglian Water’s Integrated Maintenance, Repair and Developer Services (IMRDS).

The IMRDS Alliance tackles a wide range of challenges across the utility’s network, from using smart meters to monitor water usage to replacing old pipes and connecting new homes and developments.
