SES Water completes major investment to improve water resilience in Box Hill

SES Water has completed a £600,000 project to strengthen water resilience for customers in Box Hill and the surrounding area.

SES WATER BOX HILL STORAGE TANK

The project was driven by investigations carried out last year, which found the roof structure of the Betchworth Tower freshwater storage tank needed significant structural repairs. Customer supplies were temporarily redirected from Headley Pumping Station to protect supplies while repairs to Betchworth were completed.

The work began in January 2026 and focussed on repairing the tank’s roof structure, replacing the external covering on the roof, and restoring critical storage capacity for the area. SES Water took steps during the works to introduce several interim measures to help minimise disruption. These included reconfiguring the local network so Headley Pumping Station could supply customers previously fed from Betchworth Tower.

Pete Harris, SES Water’s Head of Production, said:

“We’re pleased to have completed this major investment to restore essential storage capacity and strengthen the network for the future. I’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding. “Our teams have worked hard over many months to deliver these upgrades so our customers continue to receive a resilient supply of drinking water."
