New sewer pipes for Surrey and Hampshire networks

Engineers at Thames Water are starting work to replace and increase the capacity of a sewer pipe in Surrey.

The mile-long section of pipe will be replaced from Chobham Sewage works via Broadford Lane and underneath Scotts Grove Road  to Beldham pumping station.A new robust 315mm plastic pipe will replace the current 200mm cast-iron pipe as part of an £850,000 scheme to reduce local flooding.

Lawrence Gosden, Thames Water's head of capital delivery, said:

"This is essential work to improve the sewer network in Surrey and to make it fit for the future."

The first section of the work will take six weeks to complete and will start at Chobham Sewage works. The second phase will be completed to end at Beldham pumping station early next year.

The utility will also start work at the end of this month on a similar scheme to improve the sewer network in Hampshire. A 1,200m section of 125mm-wide pipe at Kingsley Common will be replaced to strengthen the network and ensure it can cope with demand. The work will take three months to complete.
