An Essex and Suffolk Water customer from Chelmsford has won a Red Letter Day worth £200 by taking part in a project that will save over two million litres of water a year.
The customer was selected at random to win the prize from hundreds of customers that had taken part in Essex & Suffolk Water’s ‘H2eco’ initiative.
The water company invited nearly 2,500 customers in the Great Baddow and Galleywood area to take part in the latest stage of the H2eco programme, which 15,000 customers in Chelmsford have already been given the opportunity to take up.
Customers had the opportunity to have a selection of free water efficiency products installed in the home and garden to help cut out water wastage, reduce the home’s carbon footprint and save money on household bills.
After completing a home survey participants were sent a report identifying which water saving products would be best suited to meet their individual needs and how much water and money they could expect to save by installing them. A qualified plumber then visited the property to deliver and where appropriate fit the water saving products free of charge.
Products on offer included waterbutts, dual-flush retrofit device for toilets, tap aerators, aerated showerheads, trigger hose guns, and water storing crystals.
Nearly 200 households took part in the project and are now saving on average 33 litres of water per day. This is equivalent to each customer saving 150 full baths per year or flushing the toilet over 1,300 times.
Tom Andrewartha, Demand Planning Team Leader for Essex & Suffolk Water said:
“The water savings that have been made as a result of the project are very encouraging and we hope that customers that have taken part will have made permanent changes to the way that they use this precious resource. As well as reducing water wastage, being careful with water will also help reduce our carbon footprint and save money”.
