Grontmij, as part of the Flooding Risk Reduction team, has scooped the Team of the Year Award at Northumbrian Water’s annual awards ceremony.

The prestigious award has been given to Grontmij as part of Northumbrian Water’s Going the Extra Mile awards scheme in recognition of their involvement in the collaborative delivery of flood protection measures to customers in the North East of England.

Grontmij formed part of the Flooding Risk Reduction team consisting of members of Northumbrian Water’s project team, consultants and contractors to provide front-line services for the design and installation of flooding risk reduction measures into 400 customer properties.

In order to maximise collaboration between the whole supply chain, Grontmij led on the implementation of a co-located team in their Gateshead office, which consequently enabled a joined-up, more effective approach to customer engagement and streamlined the delivery of solutions to Northumbrian Water’s customers within a tight delivery programme of seven months.

In announcing the winner, Graham Neave, Northumbrian Water’s Operations Director reiterated the judges’ comments:

“Co-location of the team into one office to enhance the ‘One Team’ ethos, increased involvement from our supply chain partners during decision making, single point tracking of progress against programme and collective ownership of the problem from inception to completion. These are the kind of things we are looking for.”

Martin Brown, Northumbrian Water’s Team Leader added:

“The team achieved the magical 400 as requested by Northumbrian Water’s Management Team for the end of May. This has all been done within budget and from the feedback we have received to date, to the delight of most of our customers.

The range and quality of products and services you have delivered make Northumbrian Water an industry leader in this area, and more importantly have changed the lives of hundreds of people in the North East by reducing the risk of the devastating effects of internal flooding.”

Paul Smedley, Grontmij’s Director of Water described the award as another example of how Grontmij is bringing added value to the framework with new ways of working, promoting collaboration with the Northumbrian Water supply chain to achieve a more efficient delivery.
