Wessex Water engineers are constructing a new sewer tunnel in Patchway, South Gloucestershire as part of a major scheme to expand the sewerage network.
The company has built a 30m deep shaft which will be linked to existing sewer tunnels in the area to provide sewerage infrastructure for the major new mixed use Charlton Hayes development which has planning permission to build 2,200 new homes on the site.
Wessex Water project manager Andrew Palmer commented:
“We are laying this new sewer to allow for increased population in the area. It will enable future development in Patchway for the next 20 to 25 years. The expansion also safeguards existing properties in the area by reducing the likelihood of flooding.”
The major construction work is scheduled for completion by December 2014.
