The Government has, this week, presented a package of actions to deliver the step change needed to ensure that supply chains and public services will be increasingly low carbon, low waste and water efficient, respect biodiversity and deliver wider sustainable development goals.

Government departments are failing to meet carbon, waste and water targets, according to a report published yesterday by the Government's watchdog, the Sustainable Development Commission.

Private sewers transfer provides clarity

The environment minister Ian Pearson announced last week that privately-owned sewers will be transferred into the ownership of the nine statutory water and sewerage companies in England.
EU Environment Ministers meeting in Brussels on 20 February adopted conclusions on the EU’s objectives for the future of international climate change action.
The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) has drafted a report detailing the effects climate change has on Europe’s coastal waters and regional seas.

Making every drop count

By 2025, 1.8 billion people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world’s population could be living under water stress conditions the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said yesterday.
