Southern Water’s Peacehaven water scheme has moved a step nearer to getting the go-ahead after an application for a judicial review into the scheme by campaigners was rejected last week by the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court in London.

Thames Water is putting its plan to build a £400 million 150Mm3 reservoir at Abingdon on hold.

Thames Water has replied to comments received during its recent public consultation on its draft Water Resources Management Plan.

United Utilities has been fined £10,000 for discharging raw sewage into a tributary of Bushburn Brook, Langho.

The average household water and sewerage bill across England and Wales is set to rise by 1.1 per cent above inflation in 2009/10. The rises for this year will come into effect from tomorrow and apply until 31 March 2010.

Despite fears that the economic downturn is adversely affecting the current AMP4 spending programme, water companies have denied making cuts in capital expenditure.

Wrekin Construction go into administration

Shropshire-based Wrekin Construction, which employs up to 600 workers across the UK,  has gone into administration.

Work has begun to create a new £500,000 Yorkshire Water environmental visitor centre at the company’s Esholt waste water treatment works near Bradford.

According to a report in today's Daily Mirror newspaper, water firms are set to face “an angry backlash” as they prepare to reveal profits of £2 billion.

Ofwat has launched a consultation into the regulatory issues arising from the change of ownership of Yorkshire Water.
