NI Water has outsourced the management of its hired standpipe process to Aquam Water Services. This change has streamlined the application and licensing process, making it more efficient and customer-friendly for user with a legitimate need to draw water from the public main using a standpipe.
All applications for new standpipe licences or renewals are now being made made through Aquam -customers can apply directly via their website.
A valid licence allows authorised users to temporarily draw water from hydrants, subject to any local restrictions.
New SMART Standpipes are being rolled out new in two sizes – a 63mm SMART Standpipe and a 25mm SMART Standpipe
These are now the only approved hire types for external users. All hired standpipes will be fitted with backflow prevention and SMART metering for improved compliance and monitoring.
The previous NIW hired standpipe(s) are being phased out and replaced by the new SMART models.
Outside of the rollout, the only users permitted to use non-SMART standpipes are:
NI Water operational staff
Fire Authority staff
All other users must use the new SMART standpipes issued via Aquam.
NI Water say the new arrangement is delivering an enhanced customer experience – benefits include:
